An AI chatbot for WhatsApp costs between $10 and $500 USD a month depending on conversation volume and vendor model, plus an initial setup ranging from $0 (basic DIY builders) to $300–$1,000 for managed services with custom AI. At Fluxr, setup is S/ 349 and monthly plans are S/ 39 (up to 50 conversations), S/ 149 (up to 3,000), S/ 299 (up to 10,000) or S/ 499 (unlimited) — with private self-hosted AI that never shares your customers' data with OpenAI, Google or any other third party, replies in under 1 second and unlimited simultaneous conversations on every plan.
The monthly figure, though, isn't the only cost that matters: the official WhatsApp Business API has its own per-conversation pricing that runs entirely separately from the chatbot plan. Here's the full breakdown so you can budget without surprises.
The three pricing models on the market
Before comparing numbers across vendors, it's essential to understand how each one bills you — the same company can pay wildly different amounts depending on the model:
| Pricing model | How it works | Main advantage | Risk to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Per conversation | Fixed price per conversation thread (24-72 hour window) | Predictable when volume is stable | Can add up fast in mass marketing campaigns |
| Per message | You pay for every message sent or received | Cheap if replies are long and singular | Penalizes chatbots that answer in several short messages |
| Flat monthly plan | Fixed price for unlimited conversations or within a band | Spend certainty and scaling without surprises | Can be expensive if real volume is very low |
For most SMBs, the flat monthly plan is the best fit: it makes spend predictable, lets you scale without renegotiating every month and simplifies budgeting.
Pricing and what Fluxr's plan includes
The Fluxr Text Agents chatbot works with this structure:
- One-time setup: S/ 349 — covers configuring the knowledge base with your business information, the custom prompt, the WhatsApp Business API integration and testing before going live.
- Fixed monthly plans:
- S/ 39/month — up to 50 conversations
- S/ 149/month — up to 3,000 conversations
- S/ 299/month — up to 10,000 conversations
- S/ 499/month — unlimited conversations
- Private self-hosted AI: the language model runs on Fluxr's own infrastructure. Your customers' data never travels to OpenAI, Google, Anthropic or any external cloud provider.
- Response time: under 1 second per message, regardless of system load.
- Simultaneous conversations: no queue and no waiting for your customers during demand peaks.
- Available channels: web, WhatsApp Business and a REST API for integrations with other systems.
- Live in 48 hours: from the start of setup to the first real message handled by the chatbot.
What Fluxr's monthly plan does not include: the official WhatsApp Business API charges, which Meta bills directly to your developer account.
The official WhatsApp Business API costs
For a chatbot to run on WhatsApp legitimately and without risking an account ban, you need Meta's official API. That API has its own pricing scheme, independent of what you pay the chatbot vendor:
- Service conversations (the user messages you first and you reply within 24 hours): in many markets these have a free monthly threshold; beyond it, the per-conversation cost is low.
- Marketing conversations (your business initiates contact with campaigns, notifications or reminders): these carry a per-conversation cost that varies by destination country and monthly volume.
- Authentication conversations (OTP verification codes): differentiated pricing, generally the lowest of the three types.
Meta's exact API cost depends on country and volume. For operations under 1,000 conversations a month, API cost is usually below $50 USD. At high volumes, Meta offers volume pricing that lowers the per-conversation cost.
Fluxr plans and additional WhatsApp API cost
The estimates below combine each Fluxr plan with typical WhatsApp Business API costs for Latin American markets. The S/ 349 setup is not included in the monthly figures. WhatsApp Business API costs are billed by Meta in US dollars, separately.
| Fluxr plan | Conversations/month | Monthly plan | WhatsApp Business API (estimate) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | up to 50 | S/ 39 | $0–$5 |
| Professional | up to 3,000 | S/ 149 | $0–$30 |
| Business | up to 10,000 | S/ 299 | $20–$80 |
| Enterprise | unlimited | S/ 499 | consult Meta |

The hidden costs almost nobody mentions
1. Integrating your CRM can be paid. Many vendors charge extra to connect the chatbot to HubSpot, Pipedrive, Google Calendar or other tools. Before signing, ask whether integrations are included or an add-on. At Fluxr, the main integrations are part of the S/ 349 setup.
2. "Advanced AI" can be a premium feature. Some vendors offer a rules-based or menu-driven chatbot in the base plan and charge separately for generative AI features: context understanding, free-form answers, intelligent handoff to a human. Confirm exactly what kind of AI the monthly plan includes before committing.
3. A verified WhatsApp Business number takes time. Meta requires WhatsApp Business account verification to unlock the official API. The process takes 3 to 7 business days and requires company documentation (legal name, verifiable website, phone number). It has no direct cost, but it can't be skipped or artificially accelerated.
4. Proactive message templates need prior approval. To send messages your business initiates (notifications, appointment reminders, campaigns), Meta requires pre-approved templates. Designing, writing and getting those templates approved usually takes several extra days. It isn't something you can switch on the same day the chatbot launches.
When a WhatsApp chatbot isn't worth it
Very few vendors answer this honestly, so here's the direct version:
- If you haven't documented your products, services, pricing and FAQs, the chatbot won't have quality information to work with. AI works on the data you give it; without good data it produces generic or incorrect answers that frustrate customers.
- If you get fewer than 50 enquiries a month, the setup's ROI takes longer to show. The chatbot is still useful for after-hours coverage, but paying back the initial cost is slower.
- If your sales process depends on personalized negotiation and long-term relationships, the chatbot can handle first contact and initial qualification, but closing will remain a conversation between people. That's normal and expected — AI automates the repetitive, it doesn't replace the relationship.
- If you don't yet have an active, verified WhatsApp Business account, you need to complete that first. The chatbot requires a valid Business API account to work.
